A Devotional for the Girl Who Struggles to Pray

💗 Prayer can feel harder than you expected

Maybe you sit down to pray and your mind wanders. Maybe the words feel stuck, like you don’t know where to start. Maybe you wonder if God is even listening or if your prayers really matter.

You’re not alone. So many believers wrestle with prayer, even when they long to be close to God. But Scripture reminds us that prayer isn’t about the perfect words, it’s about a faithful heart turned toward Him.

“In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.” — Romans 8:26

The truth is, God doesn’t require eloquence. He desires honesty. Even your silence, your sighs, and your tears can become prayer.

💐 God delights in your presence

Prayer isn’t about performance. It’s about connection. You don’t have to impress God with long sentences. He already knows what’s on your heart before you speak.

“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.” — 1 John 5:14

When you feel stuck, start simple: “Lord, I need You.” Or even just sit quietly, letting His Spirit comfort you. He delights in your presence, even when your words are few.

🌷 Jesus taught us how to pray

When the disciples felt unsure about prayer, they asked Jesus to teach them. He responded with what we now call the Lord’s Prayer, a simple, heartfelt guide that points us to God’s holiness, provision, forgiveness, and protection.

“This, then, is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name…’” — Matthew 6:9

If you struggle to find words, let Scripture lead you. Praying the Psalms or the Lord’s Prayer can give you language until your own words flow more naturally.

You don’t have to be perfect at prayer. God already knows your heart.

You don’t have to speak for hours. Even whispered prayers reach heaven.

You don’t have to fear silence. God meets you there, too.
